Breeding

Why I started breeding horses

Over 14 years ago, I flew from Sweden to Texas in search of the perfect reining horse. I came home with Trash, my first Quarter Horse, and a spark of an idea: if I couldn’t find the quality I wanted here, why not breed it myself?

That’s how my breeding journey began.

"I am easily satisfied with the very best"

- Winston Churchill

Breeding for balance & brilliance

Reining horses are compact powerhouses; athletic, precise, and built to perform. But great bloodlines don’t happen by accident. Pairing the right mare and stallion is about harmony, not compromise. Both parents must bring excellence.

I study everything: structure, balance, muscle tone, leg angles. The wrong build means future injuries, while the right one creates longevity and performance. From the moment foals hit the ground, I can often see their potential.

Billie: a magical cross

Billie is the daughter of my strong mare Nicki and Sparven, the stallion I bred, raised, and trained myself. She’s built like a dream, with balance, energy, and a natural joy for reining. She’s so promising that I’ve repeated the Nicki/Sparven pairing. Maybe we’ve discovered that rare “magical cross”!

sparven's legacy

Sparven holds a special place in my heart! He was my first foal, born into my arms, and now competes at a high level. Though he’s a gelding, I’ve preserved his genetics through frozen semen so his legacy can live on in future generations. Watching him sire a foal like Billie feels like seeing my vision come full circle.

Breeding reining horses is part science, part art, and part heart. You balance bloodlines, structure, and mentality - but sometimes it still feels like a leap of faith. When it works, though, it’s pure magic.

What started as a search for one great horse has become a passion I can’t imagine living without.
